Welcome to the Webster Elementary School!

We are a 4K-4th grade school with about 265 students and 32 staff. My name is Martha Anderson. I am the principal here, and have been principal for 15 years and the school counselor for 12. I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from UW Eau Claire, a Masters of Science degree in both School Counseling and Administration from UW Superior and a post graduate degree from Bethel University in St. Paul in Child and Adolescent Mental Health. I grew up in Southwest Wisconsin, but have lived in Northwestern Wisconsin for over 35 years. In my free time I enjoy watching the Packers, and fishing with my husband Wayne.

We have a great staff, with a good mix of seasoned veterans and some young staff, full of energy. We have won the "Wisconsin School of Recognition" award for ten years now, nine years in a row. This is awarded by the State to Title 1 schools who score in the top 25% with the State testing. This is something our students and staff can hang their hats on.

Each year we have a "Tiger Pride" theme, to set a positive school climate. This year's theme is, "Talk to the PAWS." PAWS stands for Positive Awesome Webster Students. We raise moneys through a chocolate sale every other year, and through collecting "Box Tops for Education" for an activity fund. This is used to buy Tiger Pride t shirts for everyone to remind them of our Tiger Pride. We also have Tiger Pride cards that we give out when we see a student exemplifying good behavior, above and beyond. They get a Laffy Taffy, and their name goes into a drawing for a bigger prize which is given out on Fridays from a drawing of the names from the Laffy Taffy winners. Every Friday we sing the song "Roar," a take-off on Katie Perry's song with positive words, reminding the students of respect and responsibility in kid terms.

Every year we have had a reward activity for good attendance for the first semester. It has been a movie afternoon at Timber's Theater. This year we are going to make the reward activity for students who have had one or less detentions in the first semester. This is new, so we will be reminding the students of the change.

We have a technology rich educational environment, which lends itself to personalized learning. Our teachers provide what we call student "voice and choice." This means that we are working make our teaching student centered, differentiated, broken down to the level that the student is at, and progressing when they are ready to. Our many web based programs enable us to do this, along with our I Pads at the K-1 level and Chromebooks at the 2-4 level. We are also working with the students to find strategies for them to take ownership in their learning in ways that are developmentally appropriate.
